Grand Re-Opening of Bencia Veterans Memorial Building

WHAT:                     The County of Solano and the Benicia veterans’ organizations will commemorate the grand re-opening of the Benicia Veterans Memorial Building after nine months of renovations of the historic 1948 building.

WHY:                          The 64-year-old building required several upgrades to modernize the building with an emphasis on barrier removal to improve accessibility at the facility.

WHO:                       All Solano County veterans are encouraged to attend. The event is open to the public.

DETAILS:                  The 10,909 square-foot, two-story building consists of a meeting hall for 426 occupants, banquet room, lounge, kitchen, and two large meeting rooms. Renovations include barrier removal to improve accessibility (new elevator, walkways and bathrooms); mechanical & electrical upgrades; new lighting & controls; new cabinetry; new stairs; and interior & exterior finishes.  Total project cost of improvements is $2,347,000, which includes $147,000 in federal funds and $2,200,000 in County funds.
