Make sure your child is properly restrained in a child safety seat until the age of six, or they weigh 60 pounds. Not only is it the law that a child under the age of six, or weighing less than 60 pounds, ride in a car seat, itβs much safer.
An unrestrained child in a car is at significant risk of injury or death in the event of a traffic collision. Protect your children by using age appropriate passenger restraint devices. Your childβs life depends on that car seat, thatβs why it is important to make sure it is properly installed.
The CHP implemented their Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Program in April, 1999. The CHPβs ongoing CPS program offers education and training statewide at CHP office fitting stations.
Starting May 2nd, 2011 there will be a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Certified Technician available for inspection, assistance in proper installation and general child safety seat questions.
