Burglars Target Dixon Teen Center

Burglars removed most of the Teen Center's video game machines sometime between late Saturday night and early Monday morning.

volunteers made an unwelcomed discovery Monday morning at the center.

Volunteers discovered that someone broke into the center, sometime between late Saturday night and early Monday morning and took most of the center's video game console machines said the Teen Center's Jamie Myers. 

"The center was secure on Friday and Saturday evening as we were there with the teens," Myers wrote in an e-mail to Dixon Patch. "The perpetrator apparently came into the old Dixon HS courtyard by jumping over (and damaging) one of the back fences. They broke a panel of glass in a window that looks out onto the courtyard from the main multipurpose room."

The burglar was then able to open a door and enter the center. Myers said that the center is missing its brand-new Playstation 3 console and used Xbox and Gamecube machines.

Volunteers reported the burglary to the , and officers came to the center to dust for prints. But Myers said that the officers found mutiple fingerprints as the center regularly hosts dozens of teens.

"The message Chief Cox would really like to get out is that the community has been so gracious to donate so many resources for our teens and we're sad that anyone would take from this organization," Myers wrote.

Cox however said he is confident that measures are being taken to make the center more secure so future burglaries are prevented. 

"We're hoping to install cameras and other equipment as needed, and would welcome any donations from the community to help replace these items," Myers wrote. "In fact, we would like to obtain a safe or locked cabinet that we can store these, and other, valuable items in each night."
