Davis Couple Finds Love, Marries at Dixon's Cool Patch Pumpkins

If Cool Patch Pumpkins’ is a metaphor for life – with its twist, turns, checkpoints and dead ends – one Davis couple has realized it is best to get through it together.

And on Saturday afternoon Travis Martin, 29, and Michelle Freeman, 28, solidified the love that grew between them on a special date two years ago at

“We first realized our level of commitment when we went through the maze two years ago.  We helped each other conquer all the obstacles, and there were a lot of them,” said Travis, a taxi driver in Davis and also a lead singer in a band called Death Remedy. “Being together and finding our way out without any arguments was a sure sign to us that we could handle challenges in life the same way.”

Travis and Michelle (who works for In-N-Out Burger in Davis) took their vows in costumes.  Michelle dressed as Wonder Woman (because she is beautiful and strong) while Travis said his “I Do’s” dressed as Deadpool, (because the character, played by Ryan Reynolds in the movie, deals with challenges with a smile, knowing life will get better). Their son, James Damien, was also part of the ceremony.

“We can’t be more excited about our first wedding,” says Matt Cooley, co-owner of Cool Patch. “So many amazing things happen in our corn maze—but people actually deciding to commit to each other because of their experience here really makes us happy.”
