Dixon Firefighters Battle Early-Morning Attic Fire

Flames caused roughly $25,000 worth of damage to the home

crews battled an early-morning attic fire Tuesday that caused $25,000 worth of damage to a Dixon home.

The fire came in as a possible chimney fire said Dixon Fire Capt. Al Apaka. Once firefighters arrived at the home at 6776 Lewis Road at 4:28 a.m., they discovered light smoke coming from the home.

“We found a small fire in the attic area, in the wall that was contained rather quickly,” Apaka said.

The flames were confined to the attic space and the wall, Apaka said, so fire crews got to work to suppress the fire.

“It was a fire in a wall space area, adjacent to the attic,” Apaka said. “It wasn’t showing flames directly. So we had to do some different types of fire tactics. We opened up the roof and started ventilating the house before we saw where the seed of the fire was.”

Dixon Fire Department called in a second-alarm to help combat the flames; Vacaville Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The home was occupied at the time of the fire, but everyone got out safely, Apaka said. No injuries were reported.

Flames caused an estimated $25,000 or more worth of damage to the home, Apaka said, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The family who lived in the home may not be able to get back into the home at least for a few days.

“It’s going to need some work before it can be re-occupied,” Apaka said. “There were some electrical issues found after the fire, and then there are some holes in the roof.”

The home had a second residence attached to it in which the family will be moving in while their home is repaired, Apaka said.
