The Solano County S.A.F.E. Task Force focuses its efforts on proactive sex offender monitoring, field audits, and follow-up on sex offenders who move into or out of Solano County. The Solano County S.A.F.E. Task Force ensures sex offenders meet their registration requirements, per California Penal Code 290, and abide by the terms and conditions of their state parole.
Under California Penal Code section 290, anyone convicted of a felony sex crime must register with local law enforcement and notify agencies annually of where they are living and when or if they relocate.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages the public to check the State of California’s Department of Justice Megan’s Law website for information regarding sex offenders. This website provides the public with certain information on the whereabouts of sex offenders so that members of our local communities can protect themselves and their children. Megan's Law is named after seven-year-old Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl who was raped and killed by a known registered sex offender who had moved across the street from the family without their knowledge. In the wake of the tragedy, the Kankas sought to have local communities warned about sex offenders in the area. The law is not intended to punish the registrant and specifically prohibits using the information to harass or commit any crime against a registrant (Pen. Code § 290.46.).
