Downtown Fairfield Fire Destroyed American Cancer Society, Other Non-Profit Offices
Friday's five-alarm fire destroyed the offices of Fairfield nonprofits

A Fairfield office building that was destroyed by a five-alarm fire on Friday housed several non-profit organizations, including the American Cancer Society, according to a spokeswoman.
Firefighters attacked the blaze at 744 Empire St., which was first reported shortly before 7 p.m. Friday, but were unable to keep the flames from spreading and ravaging the building.

No one was in the building at the time and no injuries were reported.
Nine employees worked at the cancer society's Fairfield branch inside the two-story building, and at least a few more worked at an Easter Seals office there, according to Bronwyn Hogan, a spokeswoman for the organization.

The building was also home to a legal services office run by the Solano County Bar Association, according to a county library website.
Hogan said the cancer organization will continue to provide services to local cancer patients at its nearby Walnut Creek office at 101 Ygnacio Valley Drive.
Patients who normally visit the Fairfield office may find information about other American Cancer Society offices and services by calling 1-800-227-2345.
Meanwhile, the cause of Friday night's fire remains under investigation.
