Significant Weather Advisory Issued for Dixon

The National Weather Service issued a Significant Weather Advisory today for Dixon. The city and county are experiencing thunderstorms and hail

Anyone planning to go outside today may want to stay in.

The National Weather Service has issued a Significant Weather Advisory for Dixon and Solano County.

Hail and rain fell on Dixon and booming thunder could be heard overheard Thursday afternoon. The National Weather Service stated that the thunderstorms could bring down hail, up to one-half inch in diameter and wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. In addition, the storms could bring dangerous lightning.

"National Weather Service Doppler Radar indicated thunderstorms developing along an area from far southeast Lake County through Solano and Colusa Counties," the NWS advisory read. "This area is moving towards the southeast into parts of Sacramento, San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties and into the Motherload. The greatest threat for storms in the Motherload this afternoon will generally be to the south of Highway 50. The strongest storms were currently located over the Delta and one storm to the northwest of Freeport."

The storms are expected to impact Dixon, Winters, Capay, Florin, Elk Grove, Rio Vista, Lodi, Liberty Farms, Victor and Stockton the Weather Service said.

Dixon Patch will continue to monitor the storm and update the story if the National Weather Service issues additional warnings.

"If threatening weather approaches your area, take shelter in a sturdy building," the NWS said. "Slow down and move to a safe location on the side of the road."
