Solano County Earns Ninth GFOA Certificate of Excellence

For the ninth consecutive year, Solano County has earned a Certificate of Achievement in Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.  The award is for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010.

“The certificate of excellence continues to be our standard,” said Auditor-Controller Simona Padilla-Scholtens.  “Our tradition of earning this annual seal of approval reflects the day-to-day professionalism of this office in preparing financial statements and reports that are reliable and transparent.”

The GFOA describes the award as the “highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its fiscal management.”

The County’s financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the document.

“Attaining this award continues to be significant accomplishment for the County and the Auditor-Controller’s Office,” Padilla-Scholtens said.  “I would especially like to recognize Sheila Turgo, Magen Yambao and Renee Phillips for their dedication and contribution in the preparation of the award-winning CAFR.”
