A Fairfield teen, suspected of carjacking a woman, crashes after carjacking

A Fairfield teenager was arrested on multiple charges late Saturday night after he allegedly stole a car at gunpoint and crashed trying to flee, police said.
Officers responded to a reported carjacking in the 1900 block of W. Texas Street at about 11:35 p.m., according to Fairfield police. A 20-year-old woman had been parking her car when a man with a handgun confronted her and ordered her to get out, police said.
The suspect got in the car and drove away, striking a fire hydrant as he fled, police said. Shortly after the carjacking, the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a rollover crash on Interstate Highway 80 near N. Texas Street.

Arriving officers determined that the vehicle involved in the crash was the stolen car from Fairfield. The suspect driver, later identified as Anthony Jesus Torres, 18, of Fairfield, allegedly got out of the car and ran into a nearby field, police said.
A canine unit and a CHP helicopter found Torres hiding under a tree, police said. A fake handgun was reportedly found nearby the suspect's hiding place. Torres was arrested for carjacking, driving under the influence, and an outstanding arrest warrant. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash.
