The 2013 Dixon May Fair Opens in Two Weeks

California's oldest fair is preparing for a return to Dixon.
The 138th-annual Dixon May Fair opens May 9, and will run through May 12. This year's fair adds bull riding, tractor pulls, a car show, an Extreme Canine Stunt Show and a concert from Dixon native Jon Pardi.
"We're getting a lot of comments on our Facebook page just about it being a great country fair," May Fair marketing director Karen Spencer said.

She said the fair focuses on delivering a fun experience that won't break the bank. The fair's opening day, May 9, will be "Thrifty Thursday"–tickets will be $5 instead of the usual $12. The following day, kids will get in for free.
"We want them to have an affordable time with their family and be able to come in and do a number of different things," Spencer said.

She said the fair will include the traditional attractions like fried food, carnival rides and a hog-calling contest, but has also kept up with the times and now boasts a robotics contest and a digital photography exhibit.
"Fairs represent the community and as a community changes, the fairs change," Spencer said.
Two stages will continually feature various musical acts. , will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 10.
This year's theme for the fair is "Delta Breeze," and the state-owned fair is led by CEO Patricia Conklin.
