Tremont 4-H Club Gets Tagged
Tremont 4-H'ers gather at the May Fair to have their animals' ears tagged
By Taylor Kramer, age 13
Tremont 4-H members got up real early on Saturday, March 5, 2011 and headed off to the May Fair Grounds and waited in a long line full of other kids and their animals to be tagged. Sage Alvarez, Martin Alvarez, Jose Alvarez, Taylor Kramer, and Ken Kramer all went out to the barn at 7 in the morning and loaded up all the sheep in the trailer and took off!!
We all sat in our trucks listening to country music and talking while waiting in line at the fairgrounds. Some of us even enjoyed some donuts while we waited! Soon after the rest of our group came with some goats too, and we all hung out and talked, filled out paper work, and just hung out.

Around 8:35 a.m., we started moving closer and closer to the tagging area. It actually started a little before 9 a.m., so we were able to get done pretty early. We got out of the bed of truck and went to the trailer and started grabbing our lambs and putting their halter's on. One by one we waited in line, gave the people our paperwork, and got the animals ears tagged.
This was my first year so I didn't completely know what to expect, but it went very well. Some of the lambs already had tags in their ears so it was easier to replace it and put the new ear tag in. Others (like mine) had to get a brand new ear tag. My dad was talking about how the ear tagging reminded him of getting your ear pierced, except it made my lamb's ear bleed for awhile.

After everyone was done in our group we drove back to the Happy Ranch put all our animals away and fed them. Even though waking up early was not fun I still had a pretty good morning and got my lamb ear tagged.
