Vacaville PD Uses Mobile Fingerprint Scanner to Nab National Identity Thief

VACAVILLE, CA- Vacaville police used a patrol car fingerprint reader Wednesday evening to arrest a Hawthorne man who is suspected of committing identity theft crimes in the western United States.

Darnell Thompson, 27, presented a fraudulent California driver's license during a traffic stop by vice detectives, police said.

The fingerprint reader in the police vehicle and further investigation determined Thompson's true identity and the fact he was suspected of committing ongoing mail theft, identity theft and fraud in the western states, police said.

Thompson was arrested for the thefts, burglary, fraud, false impersonation, possession of stolen property, burglary tools, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and a probation violation, police said.

Police said nearly all patrol cars are equipped with the mobile fingerprint readers and the thumb print reader has been useful several times.
