A man who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Martinez on Sunday afternoon was identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office today as 36-year-old John Downing, of Woodland.
Downing was struck by a westbound train on the tracks near Ferry Street in Martinez at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday.

Police responded and found Downing dead at the scene.
The coroner's office has not yet determined the circumstances surrounding Downing's death, and an autopsy is pending.
