The opening reception for the Dublin Historical Society's "Aerial Photo as Art and History Exhibition" was held last Friday at the Frame Company and Art Gallery in Village Parkway Dublin.

Drawn from CalTrans archives, these images show the unique intersections of roads and residences in Dublin in the early 1960s and provide a bird's eye view of the layout of the City at that time.

The exhibition was organized by City Historian Steve Minniear and Gallery Owner Sawsan Wolski (who is also President of the Dublin Arts Collective). Canvas prints of these unique photographs were printed by Jeff Salinas (owner of the Dublin Trophy House). This is a true Dublin community art exhibition celebrating both the City's 40th anniversary and Arts and Humanities Month.

Guests at the reception shared their lived experiences of the City of Dublin in those years and also reflected on the changes that have taken place over time. Steve provided information about each photograph and also assisted guests in orientating themselves when examining the photographs. Although aerial views have become more commonplace these days with the use of drones these photographs were taken from an airplane so the height is greater and the perspective is unique for that time in history.

The black and white canvas prints with sharp details and contrast are aesthetically as well as historically intriguing.
