Dublin Hosting First Climate Summit, STEM Competition
The city is hosting a summit April 12 at Dublin High School featuring expert speakers, and a K-12 STEM competition offering up to $1000.
DUBLIN, CA — The Dublin Mayor's Council, Dublin High School's Envirotech Club, and the Dublin High School Climate Corps are collaborating to create Dublin's first Climate Summit, which will take place April 12.
The summit will feature a number of expert speakers, including:
- Dr. Asmeret Berhe, former director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science, professor at UC Merced
- Dr. John Hogan, former NASA life support systems specialist
- Dr. Michael Rau, founder of Planetary Technologies, researcher at UC Santa Cruz
- Hailey Campbell, United States climate negotiator to the United Nations
The groups are also hosting a STEM competition for K-12 students in Dublin. The competition is divided into two age groups: grades 1-7, and grades 8-12. Entries can be submitted in two brackets: Research & Innovation, for projects that "propose new solutions, experiments, or prototypes to tackle environmental challenges", and Informational, for projects that "analyze and present about critical climate issues." Competitors are asked to submit a poster board by April 8 so that boards can be displayed at the Climate Summit April 12.
