Dublin Jail Worker Beaten And Carjacked; Inmate Charged
The inmate was arrested after leading officers on a pursuit through the city twice before surrendering, the sheriff's office said.
DUBLIN, CA — A man is back in Santa Rita Jail on charges related to the beating and carjacking of a jail employee upon his release and leading officers on a pursuit throughout the East Bay, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
Luke E. Barbero, 25, was charged with three felonies related to carjacking, evading police and grand theft, plus two misdemeanors related to petty theft and driving on a suspended license following a conviction for driving under the influence, court records showed.
He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday afternoon.

Barbero was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of stealing a laptop in Dublin, according to jail records and the sheriff's office.
He was accused a day later of beating and carjacking an employee, fleeing in their car and leading officers in a chase from Dublin to Hayward and back to Dublin, the sheriff's office said. He surrendered at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin.
