Hope Hospice Merges With By The Bay Health, Mission Hospice

The three organizations are merging to become Northern California's largest independent, nonprofit hospice network.

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin-based Hope Hospice & Health Services will merge with By the Bay Health and Mission Hospice & Home Care, the company announced Nov. 30. The merged organization will become the largest independent, nonprofit hospice network in Northern California.

The new network, the name of which has not yet been released, aims to increase equitable access to end-of-life care for the Bay Area’s most vulnerable populations, Hope Hospice said in a news release. It will provide services like hospice, home health, palliative care, counseling, and much more to more than 1,100 patients per day, supported by more than 500 community volunteers and 600 staff. Patients will have access to clinically trained doctors, nurses, social workers, bereavement counselors, spiritual support, home health aides, and occupational therapists.

The organization will also partner with health care systems and community services throughout the Bay Area, including UCSF Health.

“The vision of Hope Hospice was thoughtfully crafted 44 years ago by a small group of community leaders who wanted individuals to have every needed resource to care for loved ones in their final stages of life in the comfort of home,” Hope Hospice CEO Jennifer Hansen said in a statement. “Merging with these two excellent partners protects our legacy in the East Bay, and it secures access to additional quality resources and services. As a stronger combined organization, we can continue to provide compassionate end-of-life care that prioritizes the needs of patients and their families.”

Hope Hospice currently serves around 2,000 people annually around the Tri-Valley, and was founded in 1980. Visit hopehospice.com to learn more.
