New Photos Released of Obama's Occidental Years

Some of the photos depict the future president participating in a protest against the school's investment in companies doing business in apartheid South Africa.

President Obama attended Occidental College in Eagle Rock from 1979 to 1981, which were key formative years in his life.

“It’s a wonderful, small liberal arts college,” President Obama said of Oxy, according to the school's website. “The professors were diverse and inspiring. I ended up making some lifelong friendships there, and those first two years really helped me grow up.”

Photos of the president's Oxy years have been released before, perhaps most famously by Time Magazine in 2008, which released pics of the president smoking and posing for a photographer when he was a freshman.

The New Yorker this week released new photos of Obama at Occidental, of some of his friends at the time, and of the future president participating in a protest against the school's investment in companies doing business in apartheid South Africa. Check them out here
