Eagle Rock High School's Class of 2013 graduated Wednesday in a grand ceremony at an open-air theater where Councilmember José Huizar, LAUSD Board Member Bennett Kayser and LAUSD Instructional Superintendent Roberto Martinez gave speeches. Some 3,000 people attended the graduation, which was held at the Remsen Bird Hillside Theater at Occidental College.
As many as 405 students graduated—33 less than in 2012, which holds the record as the largest-ever graduating class at Eagle Rock High and the first graduating class in LAUSD’s history from a school affiliated to the International Baccalaureate program, which seeks to develop the intellectual, social and personal skills of students in a rapidly globalizing world. Among the seniors who also spoke at the crowded event were Valedictorian Kai Knight and Salutatorian Brian Sajorda.
