Becerra Discusses Cuts to Seniors' Safety Net
The congressman, representing parts of Echo Park and Silver Lake, heard concerns about how funding cuts will make access to health care and nutritional programs harder.
Congressman Xavier Becerra hosted leaders in Echo Park and Silver Lake's seniors community Thursday at his office on Sunset Boulevard.
Spearheaded by Ida Talalla, they voiced concerns about how federal cuts will impact healthcare and nutritional programs like SNAP (or Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program). The latter has been targetted for a $133.5 billion dollar reduction over 10 years.
Calling themselves the "Echo Park Gathering of Elders and Caregivers," the group has been meeting regularly at the Echo Park United Methodist Church.
