In the letter, LaBonge said he is awaiting a full report from the police department.

He also said he wil be coordinating a meeting with "representatives of various city departments, the Rowena Avenue business community, Ivanhoe School," the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council and community members around the issue. No date has been set yet.

Craig Collins, of the Silver Lake Reservoirs Conservancy, sees Ashley Sandau's death as an outgrowth of a culture "more friendly to pedestrian and bike travel."

He says it makes "unfortunate incidents with cars are more likely."

He adds that  some sort of  "road diet"--which would reduce traffic and along Rowena Avenue--would help maximize "safe and efficient travel for all modes of transportation."

His group is also working on getting the path around the Silver Lake Reservoir completed, to prevent other pedestrian accidents.
