Photos: Driver Smashes Into Sunset Triangle Plaza Early Tuesday

Nearby Silver Lake business owners would like to see the plaza made more visible at night.

Later:  By 1 p.m. the crews from the Department of Public Work's Street Services division had cleaned up the dirt and replaced the planters along the edges of the park.

Several, however, remained without plants.

Vendors arriving for the weekly Farmer's Market at the Plaza appeared to have no difficulty setting up.

Julie Wong of the Council District 13 office told Patch in an email that the office was looking at options "for installing additional barriers to protect the plaza and its patrons."

Earlier: A car, possibly confused about street parking along the side of the new Sunset Triangle Plaza, smashed through the plant barriers along Sunset Boulevard near Maltman Avenue in Silver Lake Tuesday morning.

According to the Eastsider LA, neighbors were contacted by police just before 5 a.m. about a hit-and-run incident at the plaza.

Skeptics had worried about just such an incident, fearing someone might try to drive up the stretch of Griffith Park Boulevard off Maltman closed to create the park.

Andrea de Guzman, owner of the United Bread and Pastry,  just above the plaza on Griffith Park Boulevard, told Patch that residents in the nearby apartment buildings use parking spaces along the Sunset Boulevard edge of the plaza at night.

She speculated that the driver who crashed through on to the plaza may have swerved when he saw a vehicle parked there.

De Guzman and her son Mark contacted Streets for People early this morning via email about clean up and how to prevent another crash.

Mark De Guzman suggested that elevating reflective caution markers--perhaps on poles--could help.
