Eric Garcetti: 'Daylight' the Storm Drains Along Glendale Boulevard (Video)

Echo Park Patch was a co-organizer.

As we have mentioned, Council District 13 representative--and mayoral candidate--Eric Garcetti was a surprise guest.

But he got right down to it and contributed a model of a re-imagined Glendale of his own along with the rest of Group 3.

Like others, it assumed the 2 Freeway offramp would be shut down to allow for green space and possibly a park-and-ride.

It also built on the idea of letting Glendale Boulevard twist and turn like a river, much like it used to be in more agrarian days.

Then the city council president and his group got even more radical: they suggested "daylighting" the existing storm drains and letting the water flow visibly down the boulevard to Echo Park Lake.

Echo Park Lake would become a zone for seniors--building on the senior housing already being constructed there.

Finally, Garcetti pointed to Second Street and Glendale Boulevard as a great place to base solar energy production, given the zone's past hosting the city's first oil wells.
