Have You Hugged Your Echo Park Librarian Today?

A Los Angeles Times Op-Ed says California doesn't value it's librarians:

Other states employ an average of one public librarian to 6,250 patrons. As of last year, 3,432 full-time librarians served 37,253,956 Californians.

Public schools-as well as public libraries--have been shedding their librarians, suggesting that these gatekeepers of the information economy don't get the love they deserve.

Who will run California's libraries without librarians? Do we really need them?
