Occupy L.A.'s Global Day of Action

There's no formal crowd estimate available, but it looked like about over a thousand marchers wound their way from downtown's Pershing Square to Los Angeles City Hall Saturday.

They were participating it what was billed as a "Global Day of Action," timed to coincide with similar marches around the country and around the world.

Carrying signs and plenty of cameras, the marchers snaked north on Olive Street, then east on W. 4th Street. 

They continued north again on Broadway to First, where some staged a short rally in of the Bank of America.

Finally, many gathered on the Spring Street side of City Hall for a rally on the steps, around 12:45 p.m.

Others gathered in the tent city on the City Hall lawn waiting for the next activities.

Music and speeches filled out much of the day.

Dozens of LAPD traffic enforcement motorcycles and vehicles were evident, as well as harried traffic officers who directed cars away from the many roadblocks set up along the march route.

Marchers were friendly and spirited, and came from as far away as Australia and Long Beach.

Residents of the Occupy L.A tent city seemed surprised by the size of the crowd. 

Joked one young man from Boyle Heights who'd been camping since day one of Occupy L.A.'s residency, "I woke up and there were all these people. It was great."

Occupy L.A.'s now two-week-long residency has led to no arrests.

The "occupiers" have been complying with requests to sleep on the sidewalks at night.
