Passover Starts Monday, Just As Taxes Are Due

The eight-day holiday of Passover, one of the holiest on the Jewish calendar, includes, for many, a seder meal on Monday or Tuesday night.

The owners of , Erin Tavin and Neil Stein, will be celebrating Passover quietly together come sundown. They won’t be having a seder or going to service tonight or tomorrow night like many Jews in the area.

Erin told Echo Park Patch she and her husband are just worn out from setting up their new store.

But they did have a couple of good tips for Echo Park residents who want to take note of pesach outside the home.

Echo Park doesn’t have its own shul, or temple, so the closest options are in Los Feliz.

One is Temple Knesset Israel.  Located at  1260 North Vermont Ave., the conservative congregation of about 120 is having morning services Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:45 am.

The temple will also have services next Monday and Tuesday morning at 8:45 a.m. to commemorate the winding down of the eight-day holiday.

Nearby Chabad of Greater Los Feliz is hosting a seder Monday at 7:30 p.m. after a service at 6:45 p.m.   (See accompanying gallery for a few preview shots of the meal.)

Located at 1930 Hillhurst Avenue, Chabad also will also have services Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. and again at 6:45 p.m.

Meantime, if you're thinking of having a seder of your own, click here to see the prayer text, or haggadah, that Chabad recommends for this meal where each food item is symbolic.

According to Jewish practice, seders can take place either the first or second night of Passover.

So it's not too late.
