Poll: Should Echo Park Have 'Alcohol Zones' if You Want a Drink?

Here at Echo Park Patch we’ve been keeping an eye on the issue of alcohol.  Many beer and wine licenses are currently in play, including one for and another for .

Wednesday night the planning committee of the Greater Echo Park Elysian Neighborhood Council heard from 7-Eleven about selling beer and wine out of its proposed new location at a minimall on Glendale Boulevard.

That’s been a particularly sticky one, as nearby residents are also concerned about noise and traffic that the store would generate.

The neighborhood council committee has now decided to hold a special community meeting on the subject so folks can chime in.  We’ll keep you posted on that.

The council also decided Wednesday night reach out to the city planning department about creating “alcohol zones,” where zoning could sequester establishments selling or serving alcohol.

Neighborhood council president Jose Sigala says the group would be the first do so.
