Poll: What If An MTV Series Was Shot Here?

The Internet's abuzz after the New Jersey city Hoboken refused to issue filming permits for a new "Jersey Shore" spin-off. Would we feel the same way about a series based in Echo Park?

Here in Echo Park it's just another day when those trailers and trucks show up for a shoot.

Film L.A., the quasi-government agency that manages permitting for the city, does a pretty good job of keeping things orderly and keeping us informed.

But what if those trucks and trailers were here all the time?

City of Hoboken Makes a Tough Choice

Consider this news out of Hoboken.

The mayor there refused to a let a new Jersey Shore spin-off with Snooki and J-Woww to shoot in the town.

You can read the full letter denying the permit here.

The essence is that that Mayor Dawn Zimmer and a number of city agencies decided to deny the permit in the interest of "public safety and quality of life."

The letter also refers to the impact that Jersey Shore had on filming in nearby communities, as well as at least one instance where "verbal agreements" had substituted for film permits.

How About Echo Park?

We'd probably all agree that Echo Park isn't the right place for a Jersey Shore-style spin-off.

But the denial raises an interesting question for us.

Surely in its hipness Echo Park will attract something big and traffic-snarling.

(Think Portlandia, which did actually visit recently for two shows at The Echoplex.)

How would you vote on having an series based here--Jersey Shore spin-off or otherwise?
