Community Corner

Saturday Event to 'Rethink Glendale Boulevard'

Blogs, lego and other tools will help participants tap their "inner child" to reimagine the blighted stretch. Come see what the neighborhood has in store for Glendale Boulevard.

The event will ask the community to imagine the future that might be possible along this heavily-trafficked stretch of street that is changing dramatically.

Props, building blocks and 3-D models will help participants articulate their points-of-view.

Rojas says this about the day's agenda:

"Participants will be asked to create their ideal street in 20 minutes.  Using recycled objects  participants will build small models of their ideas. Then they will share their creative ideas with the group.

"Next they will collaborate with fellow participants to share their ideas and on various locations they choose on the street. Each team will present their plan to the group.  The ideas will be synthesised and discussed.

"The creation of small models allows participants of any age or linguistic background to articulate their needs and desires publicly. Since there are no-right or wrong answers, all social barriers are broken down, thereby creating a friendly exchange of ideas. Participants leave the exercises feeling a sense of accomplishment and better understanding of the planning process."

Results will be shared with local government as well as the community through Echo Park Patch and other media.

There may also be an exhibit at a yet-to-be determinated location.

All ages are welcome.
