Sunset Triangle Plaza Needs Plants, Gardeners

Streets for People is coordinating a plant donation collection Saturday. You can also help with planting, next Friday and Saturday.

The Sunset Triangle Plaza is quickly coming to life.

It was only five days ago Sunday that the stretch of Griffith Park Boulevard between Maltman Avenue and Edgecliffe Street was closed to traffic to begin painting and preparation for what some have called "The Polka-Dot Plaza."

Now project sponsors Streets for People is helping with the next phase, gathering and planting greenery around the site.

They're accepting plant donations Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Micheltorena Elementary School's Garden (1511 Micheltorena St.).

Anna Peccianti of Streets for People says the wish list includes:

LeymusCondensatus "Canyon Prince", Agave Attenuata "Fox Tale Agave", SenecioCylindricus "Narrow Leaf Chalksticks", Aeonium Species "Green Aeonium", Lantana  "New Gold", Lavandula "Goodwin Creek Grey Lavender", Phlomus Fruticosa,"Jerusalem Sage" and Cassia Leptophulla "Gold Medallion Tree.

She's also looking for volunteers to help put the plants in planters next  Friday (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Saturday (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.), in time for the
