Silver Lake Reservoir Surf Contest Wows 'Em
Local artist and surfer Wowzy put up posters advertising what for some would be the ultimate fantasy sports event. Almost as soon locals started ripping them down for souvenirs.

Is it real? Is it fake?
Sometimes, who cares?
That's true of a recent series of posters that popped up in Silver Lake and Los Feliz.

They advertise the Silver Lake Big Wave Surf Contest, set for a day in April when swells on the Reservoir reach at least 25 feet.
In the "unlikely event" the swells don't materialize, a "walking and jogging event" around the Lake, they say, will take place instead.

According to an email from Rob Hoover/Wowzy:
The poster, rendered in the style of the 1960s Endless Summer era, is the first in a fantasy art series by the artist depicting fictitious events taking in and around the lake.
Says Wowzy: “The lake is very aesthetic in its own right, but its very hard for a artist/surfer like myself not to imagine more fun uses for it besides storing city drinking water – zzzzzz.”
“It looks like the locals liked the concept as they were snatching up the posters as soon as I put them up. You know the idea has some practicality – all we need is the right kind of wave generating machine and we could turn the reservoir into an inland surfing paradise"
Wonder what "event" Wowzy is cooking up next. What might it tell us about the future of the Reservoir?
