Here's more information about the event provided by the organizers:

On Thursday, February 2, Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky will be the special guest speaker (plus Q&A) at a meeting of NECA--the North East Central Alliance of Neighborhood Councils. We don't yet know if he'll be a mayoral candidate, but he certainly has a lot of ideas, information and insights to share about governance.

Another special guest will be Mark Lewis, LAUSD School Board Member Bennett Kayser's appointee on the LAUSD Redistricting Commission. A past Director of Field Operations for the City of L.A.'s Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, Commissioner Lewis will discuss the crucial value of neighborhood input and awareness regarding LAUSD redistricting and its impact on schools and communities.

NECA will host such meetings throughout 2012, with guest speakers from across the spectrum of governance and activism, in order to enhance neighborhood council unity, promote dialog and strengthen our shared voice. And while there will be many guest speakers, these meetings are also a means for them to hear from YOU.

We can learn a lot from each other by getting together!

The event starts at 6:30pm on Thursday, February 2 and will be held in the community meeting room of the Russian Orthodox Church in Silver Lake (650 Micheltorena Street, Los Angeles, CA 90026).

Attendance is free and there is also free parking in the Church parking lot and NECA always tries to have some nice food for your enjoyment and sustenance, but PLEASE RSVP at your earliest convenience to Paul Michael Neuman at pmneuman@yahoo.com(323 662-3123).

Also, please feel free to email questions in advance in order to ensure that as many questions as possible are shared with Supervisor Yaroslavsky that evening. NECA hopes to see you there, the more the merrier, but for the sake of knowing that there's enough food and a smoothly run meeting, RSVPs and advance questions are VERY helpful!
