1 Killed, 1 Wounded In Shooting Near Palomar College

A 19-year-old male died, while an injured man, 20, was found in a nearby car in San Marcos, authorities said.

SAN MARCOS, CA — Two young men were wounded Wednesday, one fatally, in a shooting in a neighborhood near Palomar College, authorities reported.

Deputies responding to a report of an assault in the 1300 block of West Borden Road in San Marcos shortly after 1:30 p.m. found a 19-year-old on the ground near a park entrance with gunshot trauma to his upper body, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The patrol personnel discovered the second victim, 20, in a nearby parked vehicle, suffering from a wound to his neck, Lt. Chris Steffen said.

Paramedics took the victims to a hospital, where the teenager was pronounced dead. The other man was admitted in critical condition.

The victims' names were withheld.

Investigators had no immediate description of the shooter or shooters, and it was unclear what prompted the shooting.

"The motivation and circumstances are still under investigation," the lieutenant said.
