Before You Hit the Slopes, Perfect Your Form at Adventure Ski & Snowboard School
Whether it's your first time or you're a pro, the instructors at Adventure Ski & Snowboard School, located in the Hansen's parking lot, will get you ready for the ski/snowboard season.
The Adventure Ski and Snowboard School in Encinitas is the only one of its kind in California. It's located in the parking lot of Hansens and lets you learn everything from the fundamentals of how to ski and snowboard to the advanced techniques all while on a slope of moving carpet.
Arrive 15 minutes early so you can fill out a form and an instructor will get you set up with boots and either skis or a snowboard depending on what you are there to learn. You can bring your own boots, but they provide the boards and skiis because they are specifically made for the carpet and are actually shorter than normal gear.
You should wear long pants that you can bend your knees and be flexible in, a long sleeve T shirt, and of full length socks that cover your shins not ankle socks. Most likely you will not fall, but if you do, you'll want pants and a long sleeve shirt on. An instructor simply stops the moving carpet if anyone falls.
Owner Kent Bry discovered the ski school 23 years ago. As a self-proclaimed good skier, he thought he'd use the revolving carpet as exercise. His first time required a lesson and after that he was hooked! Kent said his skiing improved dramatically that season.
A single private lesson is $70. Once you've taken one lesson you can practice new skills and use the revolving carpet for a workout for $25 for 25 minutes. You will work up a sweat and have fun in the process.
