Blue Ribbon Pizzeria Creator Launching a New Restaurant in Encinitas

The Craftsman New American Tavern will open this summer off El Camino Real.

The same culinary mastermind who brought you Blue Ribbion Pizzeria has something new simmering.

This summer owner Wade Hageman will unveil his newest concept: The Craftsman New American Tavern, which will be in the space where  is now.

Hageman said he’ll keep the focus on farm-to-table fresh and local foods, but don’t expect pizza. Unlike this first venture, this operation will showcase his take on hand-crafted comfort food.

“You can expect things like a beautiful roasted chicken, macaroni and cheese —simple dishes done well with the best ingredients,” he said of the restaurant, which is slated to open in late June or early July. The menu will also include “house made sausage, charcuterie, and artisan cheeses.”

Of course, some of the Blue Ribbon favorites will make the cut. He intends to keep the black seed popcorn with truffle salt, Caesar salad, and butterscotch pudding. There’ll be a host of craft beers and boutique wine labels, too.

Hageman said he is in escrow for the Savory space now, and is excited to open up shop there, especially considering he lives right down the street with his wife, who is co-owner.

“This is, in my opinion, one of the best locations in Encinitas. I think it’s time for something new, and I’m looking forward to bringing it.”
