County’s Planning Commission Meetings now Webcast

People can now watch San Diego County Planning Commission meetings live online to keep up with land use issues in the county.

People can find the link by going to the DPLU website at http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/dplu and clicking on the “Agendas – Meetings/Board of Supervisors/Planning Commission” link near the bottom of the tan-colored navigation box on the left side of the page. Then click on the “Watch Planning Commission Meetings/Find Agendas” link.  (Note: the program may require users to download Microsoft’s free Silverlight player)

“We know how important it is for people to be able to follow along as the County conducts the public’s business, and we’ve worked hard in recent years to make it easier for people to do that,” said Eric Gibson, director of the County Department of Planning and Land Use (DPLU). “Now they can actually watch meetings live, or previously-recorded meetings, right on their computers.”

DPLU previously introduced a toll-free telephone number in 2009 to let people listen to Planning Commission meetings live, and last year the department posted archived audio versions of previously-recorded meetings on its website.

The new live-streaming web link will improve the old system by letting people watch the Commission’s proceedings rather than just listen to them. DPLU will continue to provide the toll-free telephone line for people if they want to listen in by phone.

The San Diego County Planning Commission is made up of seven members appointed by the County Board of Supervisors. It meets monthly to weigh land-use issues in San Diego County’s unincorporated communities, from developments to policies and regulations.

The Planning Commission’s hearing room is located at 5201 Ruffin Road in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego.
