Drug Prevention Task Force to Hit Encinitas Streets Wednesday

San Diego County officials and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department will join drug prevention coalitions in Encinitas Wednesday morning to distribute drug treatment and educational materials to homes throughout the community.

The North Coastal Prevention Coalition, the San Dieguito Alliance, the San Diego Meth Strike Force and Prescription Drug Task Force will be part of the effort, which comes on the heels of that netted more than 30 arrests. Wednesday’s event aims to encourage drug users to seek professional help and give families access to resources.

Volunteer teams will meet at Diegueno Middle School, and comb through streets from 10:30 a.m. to noon. They’ll be distributing materials in English and Spanish that lists information about 1-877-NO-2-METH, a hotline that residents can call to make anonymous meth-related crime tips, or get referrals for treatment. Volunteers will also be handing out information about prescription drug abuse, which was the leading cause of accidental deaths in San Diego County in 2010, according to the county medical examiner.

This effort was funded in part by grants to Vista Community Clinic from the County of San Diego.
