Encinitas Applicants Sought For Citizens' Law Enforcement Review Board

ENCINITAS, CA — San Diego County is seeking applicants for an opening on the Citizens' Law Enforcement Review Board.
The vacancy is in the county's Third Supervisorial District, which spans the region's coastline from Carlsbad to Coronado. District 3 includes five incorporated cities, including Encinitas, as well as a number of communities in the city of San Diego.
CLERB was established in 1990 to investigate citizen complaints against sheriff's deputies and probation officers.

CLERB also investigates deaths in connection with the actions of sworn deputies and probation officers. The review board makes advisory findings on complaints, and recommends policy and procedure changes to the sheriff, chief probation officer and the Board of Supervisors.
There are 11 members on the review board, including two members from each of the five supervisorial districts and one member chosen at large from any of the five districts. Members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors to three-year terms that are staggered beginning on July 1 and ending on June 30.

Applicants must be a registered voter in the county, attend one CLERB meeting prior to applying, complete a training course within three months of the appointment, and serve a three-year term for no more than two consecutive full terms. Applicants cannot be a county employee, affiliated with the county and currently hold a position as a sworn law enforcement officer.
Applications are due by July 14.
