Encinitas-Based Coastal Community Foundation Gives $6,000 Grant to Hospice of the North Coast
The money will benefit the Hope Bereavement Center for youth in Encinitas, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carlsbad and Oceanside.
Hospice of the North Coast (HNC) has received three recent grants from local organizations, including Encinitas-based Costal Community Foundation.
The grants totaling more than $8,700 came from the following groups:
- Mental Health Fund of Encinitas-based Coastal Community Foundation gave $6,000 to support services offered through HNC’s Hope Bereavement Center for youth within the communities of Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Oceanside.
- The San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization (CECO) gave $1,545.98 and La Jolla-based Las Patronas gave $1,268.30 to fund the purchase of needed electronic equipment that will help HNC improve continuity of care and quality of life for its clients and the wider community.
“We are so pleased to be the recipients of grants from these three philanthropic organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of people in our region,” said HNC Director of Fund Development Shelly Dew in a written statement. “We share their commitment to community service and are eager to move forward, with their help, in serving all who need our services, regardless of financial or life circumstances.”

Dew notes that one of the first programs supported by the Coastal Community Foundation grant will be the second annual Butterfly Release Memorial taking place May20 at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Discovery Center in Carlsbad. At this free event, grieving children as well as adults can experience healing and hope. Throughout the year, the Hope Bereavement Center provides an array of programs that help people when they need it most.
“All three organizations earmarking grants to HNC expressed their pleasure in partnering with us to enhance the lives of people in our community,” said HNC Executive Director Nerice Kaufman. “As stated by Las Patronas, which has donated more than $15 million since its 1946 inception to nearly 1,000 charitable institutions, ‘Las Patronas creates meaningful connections that make San Diego a better place to live for everyone.’ We agree with that sentiment, value these connections and greatly appreciate the support of the Coastal Community Foundation, San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization and Las Patronas. On behalf of our clients and the North Coast community we serve, to each organization we offer a heartfelt thank you!”
