This summer Blockbuster announced that it was able to keep running 1,500 stores that would have closed under liquidation, as approved by a New York bankruptcy court. Though Blockbuster still operates more than 90 percent of its stores, not all property owners have elected to keep operations going.

“Unfortunately, despite our efforts to reach reasonable terms, some property owners have closed stores,” said Michael Kelly, president of Blockbuster, in a news release. “However, we’ll continue to look for opportunities for physical distribution in these neighborhoods as we expand our in-store experience, unmatched for movies and family entertainment.”
