Encinitas Little League Wins District 31 Championship

The ELL 9-10 and 11-12-year-old team won their titles on July 11.

Encinitas Little League, in its 55th season since having started on a single diamond near Moonlight Beach in 1957, has seen two of its’ all-star teams win the 14 league District 31 championship.

The ELL 9-10 and 11-12-year-old team won their titles on July 11 on adjacent fields at Poway American Little League, which hosted the tournaments.

ELL’s 9-10 year old team is 6-0 and defeated 4S Ranch Little League in the championship game 9-4.  They advance to the Section tournament and will play Scripps Ranch Little League at 2:30 p.m. at Clairemont Little League on Saturday, July 14.

ELL’s 11-12-year-old team is the two-time defending District 31 and Section 6 champion, and finished in the Southern California Final Four in 2010 and 2011.  The 2012 team is 5-0 and defeated Poway National Little League 8-6 in the championship game.  They advance to the Section tournament and will play Scripps Ranch American at 11 a.m. at Rancho Buena Vista Little League.

Both Encinitas teams earned the right to wear the District 31 poinsettia patches, designed by ELL founder and longtime Encinitas resident Leo Mullen, who later served as District 31 administrator.
