Encinitas Residents Asked to Show Support for Save Desert Rose

The group will attend Wednesday's city council meeting.

Editor's note: The following is an announcement from Bill Butler of Save Desert Rose.

On behalf of the Save Desert Rose Steering Committee members, I am pleased to announce that a VERIFIED PETITION FOR WRIT OF MANDATE has today been filed in Superior Court against both the City of Encinitas and WOODRIDGE FARMS ESTATES, LLC.

It is only through the generosity and caring of many residents of Encinitas, New Encinitas, Leucadia, Cardiff and Olivenhain that we were able to raise our preliminary war chest to file this suit.  Please understand that we raised about half of what we believe the overall cost will be so this is the beginning, not the end.  We have had several suggestions for fund-raising events and we will try to make this process a little more fun and enticing for all.  In the last days leading up to the filing, we started a mail campaign which is increasing awareness of the long term impact and potential of inappropriate development.  The mail campaign has begun to bring in additional funds.

Wednesday evening April 17th, the City Council will meet to approve the resolution of their fateful decision regarding the proposed Desert Rose Subdivision.  The meeting is slated for 6:00pm at City Hall.  We suggest that members of our community show up, simply as a demonstration of support for Save Desert Rose.  We are not intending to speak at this meeting because it will have no bearing on the passing of the resolution and cannot change the outcome of the March 13th City Council meeting.  We simply want the Council to know that we remain deeply concerned about our community and are paying close attention to their actions.

I, along with the other members of the steering committee thank you for your on-going support.  We remain very committed to our communities and our neighbors.  We will endeavor to see this through to the very end.
