Encinitas Students Raising Money for Injured Athlete

Donations will help a young rugby player recover from a spinal cord injury.

Encinitas resident Ronan Nelson, a sophomore at Cathedral Catholic High School, suffered a spinal cord injury during a rugby match April 7.

Ronan's younger sister, Niamh Nelson, is an 8th grader at St. John Catholic School in Encinitas. To show support for their classmate and to help raise money for Ronan's recovery, St. John students sold shirts to the school community before and after school on April 27.

As Ronan continues to recover throughout the remainder of the school year, students will continue to show their support by wearing those shirts every Friday instead of their uniforms.
