Encinitas Union School District Named Apple Distinguished Program
The school district is being recognized for its One to One Digital Learning Program that combines iPad's with personalized, project-based instruction to boost student engagement, critical thinking, and information literacy.

Encinitas Union School District has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished Program for 2013 to 2015 for its One to One Digital Learning Program. EUSD’s One to One Digital Learning Program combines iPad's with personalized, project-based instruction to boost student engagement, critical thinking, and information literacy.
The program has provided iPad's for all students grades K–6 as well as iPad's and MacBook Pro laptops for all teachers. Students use Keynote, iMovie, Explain Everything, and other creative tools to demonstrate learning. Teachers use Edmodo, Google Drive, and other classroom management programs to ensure collaboration and track progress with assignments. Through partnerships with top digital curriculum developers, EUSD is replacing traditional textbooks with digital curriculum tools that aligns with the Common Core standards. Students and teachers are also involved in researching and redesigning learning spaces to create 21st-century classrooms. Teachers participate in on-going professional development related to the Digital Curriculum programs.
The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments.

The selection of the Encinitas Union School District as an Apple Distinguished Program highlights the District’s success as an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment. A recent study by the University of San Diego provided validation of the positive impact digital learning has on student engagement and achievement.
“Our District is extremely fortunate to have had the support of its community with the passage of Proposition P making it possible to move forward into the digital age. The results have exceeded our expectations, our students are far more engaged and motivated to learn.” said Superintendent Dr. Timothy Baird.
