Encinitas Woman Named One of Top Volunteers in the County

Connie Lewis was recognized for the 1,500 hours she has given to the Friends of the Encinitas Library.

Encinitas resident Connie Lewis was among 28 volunteers honored Wednesday by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.

Lewis and the other residents from across the County were each presented with a Volunteer of the Year medal and proclamation thanking them for their service in various efforts.

Lewis was recognized for the 1,500 hours she has given to the Friends of the Encinitas Library over the last five years. She assists with training and coordinating volunteers for the bookstore, and participates in special events at the library. Under her leadership, from 2008 to 2011, the bookstore sales have exceeded $190,000.

The 28 volunteers have collectively donated a total of 79,000 hours and served more than182 years, according to a news release from the County. During the last fiscal year, 29,516 volunteers provided a value of over $33 million to the County.
