Farmers Market Evacuated; Suspicious Device Deemed Harmless

The suspicious item seen on a playground looked like a pipe bomb.

A suspicious device that prompted the evacuation of the has been determined not to be dangerous, according to the sheriff’s department.

A passerby reported what appeared to be a pipe bomb on a playground near Paul Ecke Central Elementary School on Union Street, around 2:25 p.m., according to Sheriff's Lt. Jim Duffy. The playground and the nearby market were evacuated as a precaution.

The sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit examined the device and determined it to be harmless, Duffy said.
