Girl Scout Addresses Safety of RSF Road Between Encinitas Blvd & El Camino Del Norte

The following is a Letter to the Editory by Alana Primes

My name is Alana Primes and I am working on my Girl Scout Gold Award.
My Girl Scout Gold Award Project addresses the safety issues for pedestrians, bike riders, horseback riders, and car drivers along the side of Rancho Santa Fe Road in the section between Encinitas Blvd and El Camino Del Norte in the Community of Olivenhain in the City of Encinitas. Rancho Santa Fe Road is the major thoroughfare through Olivenhain and approximately 1 mile does not have a safe trail for pedestrians and horseback riders to use forcing them into the bike lane or to be in the street. This is extremely dangerous as the speed limit on this section of the road is 40 mph and is a busy road. A pedestrian has an 85 percent chance of death when involved in a motor/vehicle collision at 40 mph. Because of the hazards, many pedestrians in our community drive to the local shopping center instead of walking.

I am trying to get the City of Encinitas to install Trail Number 82 along Rancho Santa Fe Road (as designated in the City of Encinitas Master Trails Plan). This would provide a safe trail for pedestrians and horseback riders along Rancho Santa Fe Road benefiting all citizens and visitors of Encinitas and the Community of Olivenhain.
