Holiday Travelers Should Prepare to Avoid Delays

More than 50,000 are expected to pass through San Diego International Airport over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Air travel and long lines seem to go hand-in-hand, and things typically get worse for travelers around the holidays. This Thanksgiving will be no different, as an estimated 50,000 passengers will pass through Lindbergh Field over the duration of the holiday, according to the San Diego Regional Airport Authority.

But in an effort to avoid delays, travelers have been urged to prepare ahead of time, and to follow some basic rules of  air travel.

Chief among these is the "3-1-1"rule, which pertains to carry-on gels, liquids and aerosols taken through security checkpoints. Federal TSA rules stipulate that all liquids must be in containers three ounces or less, and that those containers should all be placed in one clear plastic zip-top bag. Each traveler is permitted only one of these bags.

Additionally, according to the Airport Authority, to help alleviate the waiting time going through the mandatory body scanners or manual security patdowns, the airport is establishing specified lanes: Expert lanes are for travelers who several times a month, casual lanes are for those travelers who travel often and are familiar with security procedures, and family/special assistance lanes are reserved for those traveling with small children, elderly passengers, or those needing assistance.
