Update: Body Found Near Moonlight Beach

A group of children found the body of a dead man Friday afternoon in bushes along Cottonwood Creek near , according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The sheriff’s communication center received the report by lifeguards at 4:31 p.m., and sheriff’s homicide detectives were sent to the scene.

The body was on the park side of the beach, near some tennis courts and a playground, where the children spotted it and reported it to a lifeguard, sheriff's deputies said. The man was declared dead at the scene due to obvious signs of decomposition, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The dead man’s identity has not been released, and an autopsy is pending.
